Below are the quotes and written statements from attendees of conferences and safety workshops that I have been privileged to work with.
Initially I started my Culture-Leadership-Safety consulting in 2003 with Georgia Power Company. I had the help of Danny Raines (www.electricutilitysafety.com), who started his 40 plus year career at Georgia Power as a lineman, then worked his way up to head entire safety programs. Danny is also a pilot, and is one of the smartest people I’ve ever met. He now gives safety keynotes and workshops to utility companies around the nation. On many occasions, Danny I discussed the many unique similarities (human behaviors) between aviators and lineman. Utility linemen are like “fighter pilots!” They are hard working, highly skilled individuals who work both alone and as a team. They have a lot of training. They learn through others by doing! Through experience and time on the job they learn habits, techniques, the “way it’s done around here.” As Danny would often say, “Experienced linemen have to be careful not to teach the less seasoned linemen how to break the rules and still live.” I love that statement! Linemen and fighter pilots work in high risk and often dangerous work environments. Each of us provides a product (electricity and freedom) that the public enjoys, yet often takes for granted. Like an aerial dogfight there’s no room for second place. It’s the little things that kill us! Anytime I see a line crew in bucket truck, I offer up a silent prayer that our Maker keep them safe.

Danny,
Hi. I had the pleasure of being in your seminar this morning at the expo and meeting you afterwards when Cynthia walked up. I will say again that your presentation today is the best that I have ever seen and Mr. Calley Pittman and our safety director Rick Polk both said the same thing.
You made a great presentation to the Safety Committee workshop in St Louis. Dynamic and passionate presentation and information was just what the committee needed.
